Private Safari Workshops

Private Safari Workshops are ideal for individual travellers as well as small groups, joined by a professional wildlife photographer in order for you to get the most out of your photography workshop to one or more of the world's greatest wildlife destinations. These workshops / safaris are completely customised to your needs, dates, budgets and destinations. These below itineraries are just samples and not actual safaris, they can be used as a starting point to help plan your safari with a Tour Operator of your choice whom i am happy to assist should the need arise.

The beauty of photographing wildlife is that it is never a constant, its always changing and evolving, always encountering the unexpected. In this ever changing environment a photographer must learn to work with these changing environmental conditions and animal behaviours. For me this element of the unknown and unexpected only adds to the excitement of this type of photography. I use photography to capture the essence of our wildlife living in their natural habitats to show others of the beauty we have all around us.

The aim of a Private Photography Workshop is not only to afford you the opportunity to travel to some of the best photographic destinations across the african continent but to also share with you some of the techniques, thoughts and philosophies I have used which have in turn helped me in my own photography over the past years and pass them on to you. As a package a private photo safari is designed to help you improve in all the aspects of being a wildlife photographer. These private photo safaris are open to all skill levels and can be tailored to the individual needs of each wildlife photographer.

I will show you how to use different light sources individually and in combination with each other to add impact to an image, ambient light, flash and spotlight, side lighting, back lighting and direct light which can all add great drama to a photograph. I will go through all the possibilities of scenarios and settings, giving you a usable workflow that will work for you in the field. I will teach you how to watch and listen to nature as she will give up her secrets to you as you observe your chosen subject so you can start to build a picture of what is happening around you and use these skills in the future. The use of these skills will arm you with the best opportunities to photograph the natural beauty, expressions and behaviour of our diverse wildlife.

The camera settings I will share with you are the very same I use, I will give examples and clearly show this with my own camera. I will demonstrate the techniques I utilize to capture the many wonderful moments and events I have been fortunate enough to witness in nature.

These Private Photography Workshops are designed to help you to make use of some if not all of the things you will have learned, in turn this will improve your own wildlife and nature photography. Whether you are just starting out, like I once did, or a Professional, I believe we never stop learning, it is my aim and promise to you to improve your photography while learning how to listen, and watch for the tell tale signs mother nature will show you, and this will help you to understand your subject just a little more, which is one of the key elements of wildlife photography and just as important as the camera skills I will teach you.

The Below Private Photo Safaris run throughout the year and can be booked on your own specifically desired dates.

There are thousands of amazing destinations around the African continent, the below are just a few of my favourites, If you would like to join me on a Private Photo Safari but none of the destinations or itineraries below suite your needs then please do visit my Tailor Made Safari Page so we can start planning your very own customised Private Photographic Safari

The Okavango is a true wilderness, in accessible most of the year other than by light aircraft which means that we fly in and out. Due to the vast wilderness and the exclusive concessions we hardly see anybody else while we are there other than the people at our own camp. These are endless possibilities when i comes to photography, we will have options to photograph from the air in open door helicopters, from speed boats, dugout canoes, and game drive vehicles. This list includes some birds that are of exceptional interest: including African Skimmers, Rock Pratincoles, numerous King fishers and Bee-eaters as well as being home to one of the densest populations of African Fish Eagles on the continent, as a result there is no better place to photograph these majestic birds. Our second destination will be one of the most amazing birding spectacles on earth. Every year on the banks of the mighty Zambezi river flocks of Carmine Bee-Eaters arrive to breed and nest. The breeding spectacle is truly astonishing when up to 15 000 birds breed in a single colony. Photographic opportunities are unbelievable and include males dueling mid-air, nest building on the ground and in the banks, bathing, hunting and feeding while the various raptors such as Yellow-Billed Kites and Wahlberg's Eagles dive in to feed on the Carmines.
